The protesters also demanded an end to harassment in the name of performance evaluation and a one-time retirement settlement for ASHAs who have retired from service. They called for an increase in honorarium and incentives to 10,000 rupees, pointing out that the state government has increased the monthly honorarium of midday meal and anganwadi workers by 1,000 rupees. The protesters warned that they would intensify their agitation across the state if their demands are not addressed.

A 43-year-old employee working in a multinational company in the FMCG sector was found hanging inside the factory located in the Nanjangud industrial area on Wednesday. The deceased, Kumaraswamy, left a death note accusing three of his fellow colleagues of harassment and sought action against them for the extreme step. According to SP Mallikarjun Baladandi, Kumaraswamy took the drastic step inside the factory in Nanjangud industrial area on Wednesday afternoon.

Nanjangud town police have taken up a case of abetment of suicide and are investigating. The deceased was a resident of Kappasoge village in Nanjangud taluk. Police said he was working as a part-time employee at the factory for about 23 years. On Wednesday, he left home for work as usual, but around 3pm, he was found hanging in a lab within the factory premises. Sometime later, co-workers noticed the dead body and informed authorities, who then alerted police. After arriving at the scene, police took custody of the body and recovered a death note. Kumaraswamy, in his death note, blamed three persons for his death and urged police to take action against them. He had addressed the note to the circle inspector of police. Family members, who reached the spot, demanded the arrest of the three individuals mentioned in the death note and called for strict action against them. They also sought appropriate compensation and a permanent job at the factory for the deceased’s son.

The Karnataka government’s 50% concession on traffic fines scheme has brought to light 1,656 pending traffic cases in Mysuru, dating back over three decades. According to the District Legal Services Authority, 792 cases pertain to RTO east and 864 cases are related to Hunsur ARTO division, with a total fine amount of Rs 55.1 lakh pending from vehicle owners. The pending cases are related to various traffic violations, including running a vehicle in a no-permit region, lapse of registration certificate, defective number plate, and using high-beam light.

Regional Transport Officer C Vasanth confirmed that there are still cases undisposed of for decades, reasoning that it may be because the vehicle may not be in operation or is being used outside their jurisdiction, making it challenging to trace. Although reminders and notices have been served to the owners, they have failed to pay the fines. The authorities have blacklisted vehicles with pending cases, preventing further transactions due to the outstanding fines. However, activists have questioned why the department failed to develop a mechanism to verify the current status of the vehicles and their registered owners, and establish a transparent process for closing outdated and irrecoverable penalty records permanently.
